1. Do you have a catalog with additional samples and photographs?
Since all of our cakes are custom made to individual specifications, no catalog per se is available. Our Web site is a brochure, not a formal catalog. It's designed to give an introduction to our style and services. We continually evolve and as we do, we introduce new, seasonal designs which are available for your review on our website.
2. Can I see someone to discuss my requirements?
We can successfully organize your cake via the internet; however, you may prefer a personal consultation. If this is the case, Kevin will personally design your cake during a one hour consultation. Our consultations are by appointment only. We charge a $75 fee at the consultation. Bring with you any cuttings or pictures of both things you like and things you would like to clarify that you really hate. It is a good idea to already have a fair idea about what you like, so that the design can be reached within the hour as any subsequent consultations are also $75 per hour. Time is money - When Kevin is working with you to create your dream cake he can't be productive elsewhere. Without charging for his services in this area we would have to further limit the number of cakes that can be produced in a day. We hope this helps you understand why these charges are necessary. Although we try to accommodate everyone's schedule, in the busy seasons, we need to concentrate on completing orders and have to see people by appointment only.
3. I have a limited budget and require a lot of portions. What are my options?
If you are having a large number of people at your function and need to keep the costs down consider approaching your venue and asking for the dessert course to be dropped. It can be more cost effective to have a larger cake to serve dessert sized portions than have a dessert and a cake. Also, you don't have to compromise on the costs of decorating your cake if you have a smaller cake decorated for your photos and serve a "slab" straight from the kitchen.
4. When should I book my cake?
We do not like to rush clients into making hasty decisions and we encourage research. However, we cannot guarantee prices and availability before a deposit is received. Most clients book our services six months to a year before their event. We have been known, however, to stay up all night to complete last-minute orders.
5. I'm getting married outside Auckland Area. Can you ship my cake?
We are often asked if we can courier our cakes, but unfortunately, we are yet to find a courier company who will deliver our cakes with a guarantee of care. However, many customers have traveled successfully both nationally and internationally accompanying their cakes.
6. My local baker is making my cake. Can you supply instructions? May I have dimensions of a specific cake design?
Unfortunately, we can't supply this information, as we need to devote our resources to meet the demands of our clients. The structuring and decorating techniques we use took a long time to develop; additionally, cake construction requires special conditions and tools. We, therefore, cannot assume the liability of providing long-distance support to third parties.
7. When may I come for a tasting? Are you open weekends/holidays/evenings?
If you are interested in tasting our chocolate or white chocolate cakes, we do sell by the slice in our Browns Bay store, which is open seven days.
8. Do your cakes cater for those with nut or gluten allergies?
We cannot guarantee 'nut free' as almost all products today carry warnings with regard to trace nut elements. We can ensure that every care is given in producing a nut free cake and are happy to list all ingredients used. We also have gluten free cakes in our range.
9. If I have any left over cake can I store it?
In the unlikely event you have any cake left over, place the cake in a appropriate size box and wrap the entire box with several layers of plastic wrap and then place the whole thing in another plastic container. When you are ready to eat your cake, remove the container from the freezer and let the cake thaw in the container with the plastic still covering the box. Do not unwrap/open it until it is totally thawed. When the cake has time to thaw completely, remove the cake from the container/box, unwrap and enjoy!
10. How much deposit do you require?
Deposit - A 50% Deposit is required to secure the date of the function. This deposit is not transferable.
Cancellations – Orders cancelled within 6 months of the function date result in an automatic forfeit of your full deposit. Orders cancelled prior to 6 months will have the deposit refunded, less a $50 administration fee.
Final Payment Arrangements – The final balance is due one week before collection. If paying cheque it must be received 2 weeks before collection. Your cake will not be scheduled until this is received and may result in us being unable to have it ready in time. NB: some cakes take several days to decorate
